Photo Album: The Life & Times of Mary Kuhn Rogers

  1. God bless southern women. They truly are steel magnolias: grace, charm, wit, strength, beauty. I spent most of Saturday (February 25) with my Texas family. The mother was dying from cancer. If she had been a tree, she would have been a giant sequoia. She cast her shadow far and wide giving comfort and support to all she knew. For more than 80 years she exemplified inclusive and unrestricted love, touching the hearts, souls and minds of hundreds, if not thousands, of people. She knew how to laugh, how to dance, how to tell a story, how to keep silent, how to smile, how to hug, how to make you feel special. Although many have known her longer, for 38 years it has been both an honor and a privilege to count Mary Kuhn Rowntree Rogers as my friend. Thank you, Mrs. Rogers, for leading the way with grace, intelligence and class.

The world will be a different place without her in it. We are all changed now . . . not because she is gone, but because she was here.
