Mary Kuhn Rogers Left Tracks ...

When I read this statement on a greeting card, I thought of my sister, Mary Kuhn Rogers, and all of the tracks she left in the sand throughout her life. In my mind I started to list them and quickly found there were so many I needed to write them down. The list filled my paper many times over. I want to share a few of her tracks that I recalled:

§ The year her husband, Rog, served in Vietnam, Mary Kuhn wrote and posted him a letter every day to remind him of how much he was loved and missed.

§ The year Mark, her son, was so gravely ill, she stayed by his side and willed him to fight and win over his illness.

§ The year Leah, her daughter, gave birth to twins whose lives hung in the balance; Mary Kuhn focused all her energy with support and love on the family.

§ The happiness and pleasure she gleaned each week from spending time tutoring her daughter, Libby’s children, Cameron and Meredith.

§ As a military wife, she consistently displayed her joy in making new friends around the globe. Many of these people remained life-long friends.

§ The lasting friendships Mary Kuhn developed with her educational colleagues throughout her years as a school counselor and teacher.

§ As a high school counselor, the difference she made in the lives of thousands of students by ensuring each one experienced success.

§ She unfailingly thought of others. Three days prior to Mary Kuhn leaving us, she asked me to send her doctor, Dr. Dell and his staff, some Honolulu Cookies as a thank you for their years of care during her time in Grand Prairie.

§ Mary Kuhn readily gave her undivided attention to each of her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews making sure each of them knew they were respected and loved.

§ And finally, as a sister, Mary Kuhn displayed love, offered advice, acted as confidant and ensured each of us knew how special we were to her.

These are only a few of Mary Kuhn’s tracks made in her journey on earth. I dare say everyone who knew her could create a list as long as mine noting the difference she made where ever she walked. I can think of no greater legacy Mary Kuhn could have left us than our remembering the many tracks she left in the sands of her life.
